So you think you have what it takes to compete???
The New Jersey State Barbecue Championship is an extremely popular competition on the barbecue circuit. As one of the oldest competitions on the East Coast, with our great seashore location, what else would you expect? Each year we develop a waiting list of teams wishing to compete.
In order to maintain the highest level of competition, while allowing opportunity for new teams to compete against the best, we have developed an entry system outlined below.
Here is how it works...
The top 2/3 of the overall placing teams of the previous year receive a first round invitation and a chance to lock in their space before any other teams. Those top 2/3 teams will receive their applications in our first round of mailing and have approximately 30 days to return their completed applications and fees.
FAILURE TO RETURN THE FIRST ROUND APPLICATIONS BY THE EARLY DEADLINE WILL CAUSE A LATE RETURNED FIRST ROUND APPLICATION TO BE DRAWN WITH OUR SECOND ROUND APPLICATIONS, AS OUTLINED BELOW.
Second Round applications consist of all other application requests. All others (bottom 1/3 from immediate prior year and all other requests) will have their applications sent in the second round of mailings.
THEN . . .
Once we receive any completed second round applications, we sort them by POSTMARK (You must mail your application back via USPS. Don’t bother with express mail, etc. We go by the postmark, not the date received. And don’t try to play with the date on the postage meter. We accept only USPS postmark, not meter mail dates.)
We fill each remaining space with the earliest postmarked applications. To break any ties, we number the envelopes and conduct a drawing for each date that we have different postmarked envelopes. We then sort the envelopes by date and number drawn. We then accept applications until the remaining spaces are filled.
Send Requests for applications to competitors@njbbq.com.
Estimated Dates for applications
January 1st - Accept application requests for that year
On or about March 1st - Mail applications to the "returnees"
On or about April 1st - Mail applications to everyone else
(Note the applications are e-mailed on a Saturday evening so everyone has an equal opportunity to have their entry postmarked on the following Monday)
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to send an email - the competitor email is checked on a regular basis
Maybe you have what it takes to be the 2011 New Jersey State Barbecue Champion!!!
